Ducks at Luss (Distil Scratch Band Day)

The first Distil Scratch Day took place a few weeks ago in Lofi Studios in Glasgow. The task was to write for drums with bass, piano and fiddle. This was very exciting as I had never written for drums before. I chose to work with a tune I had composed for week 16 of my #tuneoftheweek project; ‘Ducks at Luss’ which is in 7/8 so I thought it would be interesting to write a drum part in this time signature. There were five composers which took part in the scratch band day and each received an hour with the band to work on their piece.

Thanks to Simon Thourmire and Dave Milligan for putting on the day, it was fantastic. Thanks to Patsy Reid on fiddle, James Lindsay on bass and Alyn Cosker on drums for bringing my piece to life so brilliantly. Here is a live recording from the day of Patsy, James, Alyn and myself.
