For #tuneoftheweek for week 16 I’ve written a 7/8 tune in B minor. I wrote the A part whilst making a brew. I then sat down to it later in the day and made a few changes. This took quite a while. Then I wrote the B part in no time at all. It’s usually the other way round, I usually get an A part fairly quickly and then it takes a while for a B part.
I had great fun recording this yesterday. First I asked Adam Sutherland if he’d put down a fiddle part. I hadn’t thought of any chords or anything to go with it when I asked so we just put the fiddle part down on it’s own to start. I then messed around with some chords for a while and put down a piano part. I thought I’d quite like the flute playing the melody as well as fiddle so I put that down too. Then I was having great fun so I put down another flute line. I was listening back to it over the speakers and I felt like something was missing. BASS! I thought. So I plugged in my keyboard, picked an acoustic bass sound and put a bass line down and I LOVE IT!
This #tuneoftheweek project is great fun. I’m loving composing something new each week but also seeing what I can create with the recording of it too. Week 16 is called ‘Ducks at Luss’ as we went on a day out to Luss and watched the ducks having the craic on the beach.
