Well, week 30 is here already for my #tuneoftheweek project. I wasn’t trying to write a tune when this came out at the weekend. I’d just picked up the whistle whilst my soup was warming up. I played a few notes and came up with the first phrase, which I really liked, so I kept going and ended up with a three part reel. I’ve not written too many tunes that have more than two parts but this really felt like it needed the third part. My favourite bit of the tune is at the start of the B part, I love the chord changes. I found the tune quite complicated to play so I really had to practice it before I recorded it. I wrote it on Saturday afternoon and recorded it Sunday morning and I’ve just had chance to put it up on here now.
I’ve named it ‘G’s Reel’ – G is Gráinne Brady, the fantastic fiddle player and composer who I work with a lot. She’s also a really good pal and so I fancied naming a tune after her. I hope she likes it!
I feel that #tuneoftheweek is drawing to a close. I’m thinking of keep going with it until Christmas. It’s been a fantastic project to undertake and I’m really happy with the results. I feel that it needs to go in a different direction now. So after Christmas I hope to create a tune book and an album of my compositions and hopefully take on some new composing projects.
