I had a fantastic time last week tutoring piano and mixed instruments at the two Tinto Summer School tasters. Tinto has been running for many years now but this is the first year they have been able to offer completely free taster sessions because of funding from Creative Scotland which is fantastic.
Tinto is held in the beautiful old house and grounds at Wiston Lodge in Biggar. The first of the two tasters started on Monday and lasted until Wednesday and then the second was Thursday until Saturday. There were beginners through to more advanced students ranging from age 9 to 17 with a mix of instruments. Most classes were full group classes where we prepared music to perform at a concert for the parents and Tinto staff at the end of the taster. It was fantastic what the pupils managed to achieve for these concerts in such a short space of time.
With fantastic weather all week there was plenty of time for football, rounders and my favourite, frisbee in between classes. There were also bonfires with sing songs which were great fun and scavenger hunts. I highly recommend Tinto to everyone, adults too as there is an adult school each summer as well.
Here are some photos from the week.
