Week 47 #tuneoftheweek is a reel in G minor which I’ve recorded in an Irish dance music style.
Over the Easter weekend I was at the World Irish Dancing Championships which were held in Glasgow. I went to watch the Senior Ladies competition on the Saturday. It was great to see some of my friends competing and fantastic to hang out with old and new friends again from the dance world.
When I was studying in Limerick I went to an Irish dance school there – Scoil Ui Ruairc. It was such a nice dance school to go to with lovely teachers and dancers. There was a great little dancer of about 12 years old – Zoe Griffin. Since I left Limerick I’ve kept up with her progress in dancing over Facebook and she’s become more and more successful over the years. I watched her compete in the Senior Ladies competition this year and her 3 rounds were fantastic. I was delighted for her when she won! WORLD CHAMPION!
I wrote this tune a few days after being at the championships. I started off with a chord progression and then wrote the melody around that. I was trying to think of a name for it and I thought I’d like to name it for Zoe and her well deserved achievement of winning the World Championships.
Here is ‘Zoe’s Globe’.
