It is week 18 of my #tuneoftheweek project and I seem to be finding that it’s getting easier to compose tunes which is great! I was feeling particularly uninspired today (after a late night!) but it’s the last day of week 18 so I had to write a tune today. I’ve been asked could I not just use a tune that I’ve already written in the past. I suppose I could but it would be cheating. Nobody would know but I’d know and I want to keep up with my project by writing a tune every week.
When I began to compose today I sat down at the keyboard that I use to play for Irish dancers for a change. I knew I wanted to write a jig (I’m trying to compose a variety of tunes and haven’t had a jig for a while) and was quite surprised at how quickly I managed to write this one. It took me longer to record the thing than to write it.
It’s called ‘The Sparkle Horse’ as that’s one of my favourite places to go and eat out with my friends before the Lismore session on a Tuesday night. Also I think that it’s just a fantastically weird name for a pub so I thought I’d name the tune after it.
