So this week I gave myself a few check points to start with before writing the tune. I gave myself these to help try to write a tune that is a bit different to what I usually write. It’s easy to compose tunes in a similar format each time so I was trying to break that a bit with this one. Here are the guidelines I scribbled down at the start:
- Happy reel
- D Major
- 2 parts
- 15 mins per part
- Start on D
- Bars 5&6 to be different to 1&2
- No syncopation
Many tunes that I write have a lot of syncopation and so I told myself I wasn’t allowed any in this one. A lot of the time I repeat bars 1&2 in bars 5&6 and so wanted to do something different this time. I wrote the A part in 15 mins but it took a little longer to get the B part. I managed to achieve everything else though so I’m happy with that.
I’ve named this tune “Trutex Lassies” after the good friends I made during my time working in a summer job in the Trutex (school wear) warehouse at home in Clitheroe years ago.
